Fear and doubt…

I recently done a Bible study about fear and doubt.  Here are a couple verses about fear and doubt that really spoke to me…

Philippians 1:28 (KJV) says:
and not in any way terrified by your adversaries, which is to them a proof of perdition, but to you of salvation, and that from God
.

Now, here is what the same verse says in the Amplified Bible:
And do not [for a moment] be frightened or intimidated in anything by your opponents and adversaries, for such [constancy and fearlessness] will be a clear sign (proof and seal) to them of [their impending] destruction, but [a sure token and evidence] of your deliverance and salvation, and that from God.

James 1:6-7 (KJV):
But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind.  For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord;

Amplified version:
Only it must be in faith that he asks with no wavering (no hesitating, no doubting). For the one who wavers (hesitates, doubts) is like the billowing surge out at sea that is blown hither and thither and tossed by the wind.  For truly, let not such a person imagine that he will receive anything [he asks for] from the Lord,

Ok, read this carefully:  Doubt and fear are NOT from God.  The moment we doubt or fear, we stop God from doing for us.  By doubting and fearing, we are telling Him that we don’t really believe what He promises.  Doubting stops God.

Ok, read this carefully:  Doubt and fear ARE from Satan….. those are his lies.  When we doubt or fear, we are believing the lies of the devil and that is just what he wants us to do.  Satan wants us to believe his lies so he can bind us in chains, away from God.  Break that chain!

Think back to Peter.  You remember Peter?  In Matthew 14, when the boat was tossing about on the water, and they were all so afraid.  Who did they see walking on the water toward them?  It was Jesus!  And what did Jesus say to Peter?  He told him to “come”…. and when Peter stepped off that boat, he walked on water too!  BUT, consequently, he took his eyes off of Jesus and onto the waves and he became afraid (that was the devil in his ear telling him he couldn’t do it)…. and we know what happened next….  He started sinking.  Matt. 14:31…..”Immediately Jesus reached out His hand, caught hold of him, and said to him, “You of little faith, why did you doubt?”

Doubt, and fear of sinking, let him sink.  Jesus was letting him walk as long as he had faith and kept his eyes on Him.

Which will we choose…..to walk or to sink?  Keep your eyes on Jesus!  DO NOT, for one moment, believe the lies of the devil.   The devil wants you to sink….. GOD DOES NOT.  God wants you to walk!  He wants you to walk without fear and without doubt.

I know how hard it is to not be afraid.  I’ve struggled with this one for a very long time (and still do).  With every big decision we have to face, there is that seed of doubt, that seed of fear.  We wonder “am I doing the right thing?” or “am I making the right decision?”    If we have prayed about it, and turned it over to God, HE WILL lead us to the right thing and guide us in making the right decision.

That voice of doubt and fear?  that is satan.  Stop him dead in his tracks!  Cast him down!  Tell him to shut up!  Tell him to get away from you!  Tell him that you don’t believe his lies!  Tell him that your eyes are fixed on Jesus.  Did you know that with just one mention of Jesus’ name, the devil has to leave?  Speak His name!  When you are afraid, just speak HIS name over and over and watch what happens…

Psalm 56:3 says……When I am afraid, I will trust in You.

Repeat this verse to yourself the next time you are afraid …… When I am afraid (worried, alone, unsure, insecure, frustrated, angry, hurt, overcome) I will trust in You!

I WILL trust in You!

I WILL TRUST in You!

I WILL TRUST IN You!

I WILL TRUST IN YOU!!!
