We’ve been studying the book of Malachi in our Wednesday night women’s study at church, and it has been amazing to me! I hadn’t really read Malachi until lately. I’m sad to say that because it is such a good book. I’ve read it a few times already with different translations.
In chapter 3 it talks about how the Lord will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver, and He shall purify the sons of Levi and purge them as gold and silver, that they may offer unto the Lord an offering in righteousness.
This reminds me of a story that I read a long time ago about a group of women going on a tour and part of the tour taking them to a silversmith shop. They watched the silversmith working for a good long while, and then one of the women asked him how he did what he did. How he put something into the fire and make something beautiful out of it.
He told her that it wasn’t as easy as it looked, that he had to make sure the fire was just right. Not too hot and not too cool (if a fire can be cool lol). But, in essence, he had to make sure the temperature was perfect or the whole process wouldn’t work. He also said that he had to sit and watch it every second because if he didn’t, it would be destroyed.
She then asked him how he knew when it was ready to come out of the fire and he told her that as he watched it, he could see changes occurring and when he could see his reflection in it was the time to take it out.
That amazes me and I think it deserves a big ole Praise the Lord!! Think of all the fires we’ve been in throughout our lives. Think of those in the fire right now as you read this.
When God sits as refiner and purifier of us, it is only when He can see His reflection in us that we are taken out of the fire. Hallelujah!!! Isn’t that something?! Keep pressing on sweet friend… your fire won’t last forever!
